Collegiate Edu-Nation’s annual conference connects education, workforce, industry and community leaders committed to building stronger futures for rural communities
Rural leaders from across Texas and beyond came together this summer for Collegiate Edu-Nation’s (CEN) 2026 Rural Empowerment Conference, a three-day gathering focused on turning ideas into action and expanding education-to-workforce
opportunities in rural communities.
Held June 3–5, the 2026 conference carried the theme “We Are Rural: NEXT LEVEL,” challenging attendees to build on the progress already happening across rural communities and take collaboration, innovation and impact even further.
The conference brought together educators, superintendents, higher education leaders, workforce partners, industry representatives, community leaders and nonprofit organizations for conversations centered on one shared goal: creating stronger pathways that allow rural students and communities to thrive.
“Rural communities are not waiting for someone else to create their future,” said Dr. Kim Alexander, Founder and CEO of Collegiate Edu-Nation. “They are building it. The Rural Empowerment Conference gives leaders the opportunity to learn from one another, build the right partnerships and leave with ideas they can put into action in their own communities.”
Across three days, Rural Champions participated in sessions highlighting college and career readiness, rural workforce development, P-TECH and postsecondary pathways, registered apprenticeships, Student-Directed Research, community development and innovative approaches to rural education.
Those conversations included real-world examples from rural communities already putting the work into practice — giving attendees an opportunity to learn directly from educators, workforce partners, community leaders and organizations navigating the opportunities and challenges of rural transformation.
The conference also celebrated the people and partnerships making that transformation possible. During the annual REC awards ceremony, CEN recognized outstanding rural educators, leaders, partners and organizations for their contributions to student success, workforce development, community impact and the expansion of opportunity across rural communities.
More than a conference, REC is designed to serve as a meeting place for people working across sectors that too often operate separately.
CEN’s work is built around connecting K-12 education, postsecondary institutions, workforce organizations, employers and community leaders so rural students have clear pathways from the classroom to credentials, careers and economic opportunity.
The 2026 Rural Empowerment Conference reflected that same approach — creating space for leaders to share what is working, learn from challenges, form new partnerships and return home ready to move their communities forward.
“Rural doesn’t mean small opportunity,” Alexander said. “When the right people are at the table and communities have the capacity and partnerships to execute their vision, rural places can lead the way.”
CEN will continue building on conversations and partnerships formed during REC 2026 through its work with rural school districts, higher education institutions, workforce and industry partners, and communities across Texas and beyond.
