Three-year initiative will strengthen real-world learning, develop educators and expand education-to-career pathways across rural Missouri.
Collegiate Edu-Nation (CEN) and Greater Ozarks Cooperating School Districts (GOCSD) are launching a three-year partnership to expand educational opportunities and strengthen connections between classrooms, careers and communities across rural Missouri.
The Rural Missouri Education Transformation Pilot will begin with five Missouri school districts, with plans to grow to at least 10 implementation districts by the end of the initiative. The partnership combines GOCSD’s regional relationships and leadership with CEN’s experience helping rural communities build sustainable education-to-career systems.
Together, the organizations will work alongside school districts, educators, higher education institutions, employers and workforce partners to strengthen instructional practices, expand Real World Learning and create pathways that connect students to meaningful opportunities beyond high school.
The goal is not to introduce another stand-alone program, but to help rural communities build lasting systems that connect education, workforce and economic opportunity.
“This partnership represents exactly the kind of work CEN was created to do,” said Chris Coxon, President of Collegiate Edu-Nation. “Rural communities have incredible talent, leadership and potential. What makes this opportunity exciting is the chance to connect those strengths across an entire region. By working alongside GOCSD and local leaders, we can build on what we’ve learned in Texas while creating an approach that reflects the needs and opportunities of Missouri communities.”
Building Stronger Rural Education Systems
The initiative will use CEN’s Seven Essential Elements of Instructional Transformation as a framework to help participating districts assess current practices, identify opportunities and develop locally driven strategies for improvement.
Through structured coaching, technical assistance, professional learning and implementation planning, CEN and GOCSD will help districts strengthen student engagement, Real World Learning, career-connected education and partnerships with higher education and industry.
Each participating district will develop a roadmap tailored to its community, with an emphasis on building the local leadership and infrastructure necessary to sustain progress over time.
“Rural schools are the heart of their communities, and every student deserves opportunities that connect classroom learning to the real world,” said Pam Hedgpeth, Executive Director of Greater Ozarks Cooperating School Districts. “Through this partnership with CEN, we’re bringing educators, businesses, civic leaders and community partners together to create meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for what comes next. By connecting education to real-world opportunities, we’re not only investing in our students’ futures, but also strengthening the workforce and communities across the Missouri Ozarks.”
Investing in Educators. Expanding Opportunities for Students.
Educator development will be a central component of the initiative. Over three years, at least 150 Missouri educators are expected to participate in GOCSD Real World Learning Transformational Teacher opportunity, a professional learning program designed to strengthen real-world learning and instructional practices.
The partnership will also create opportunities for district leaders and educators to collaborate, share strategies and learn from one another, building a regional network capable of sustaining transformation beyond the initial project.
“For CEN, expansion isn’t about taking something that worked in one community and simply recreating it somewhere else,” said Dr. Susan Grove, Chief Development Officer of Collegiate Edu-Nation. “Every rural community has its own strengths, challenges and opportunities. Our role is to listen, connect partners and help local leaders build the capacity to move their vision forward. The real measure of success is what remains in these communities long after our direct involvement.”
For students, the initiative aims to provide at least 1,000 PK–12 students with access to Real World Learning experiences across the initial five districts.
Participating schools will work to strengthen student engagement and academic achievement while expanding opportunities to earn college credit, industry-recognized credentials and participate in apprenticeships, work-based learning and other career-connected experiences.
The initiative establishes measurable goals for improved attendance, academic performance, college and career readiness, and successful transitions into postsecondary education, apprenticeships and employment.
Creating a Model for Rural Communities Beyond Missouri
While the partnership begins with five districts, its long-term vision extends across the region and beyond.
GOCSD will engage additional Missouri school districts through regional learning opportunities, while CEN will document implementation strategies, outcomes and lessons learned to develop a practical roadmap for future expansion.
The organizations will also work to strengthen relationships with employers, higher education institutions and workforce partners, creating opportunities for communities to build more connected education-to-career pathways.
The three-year initiative will continue through September 2029, with a focus on building sustainable systems, strengthening regional collaboration and creating a model that can support rural education transformation well beyond the initial participating districts.
For CEN, the Missouri partnership represents another step in advancing a national movement to ensure that rural students have access to meaningful educational opportunities, regardless of where they live.
Because the future of rural communities depends on the opportunities we create for the next generation.
